Basically, what I would like to see, to speed up build times on things like windmills and other objects that require multiple parts to build, would be to separate the hauling tasks for the parts from the build task so multiple haulers could bring the parts to the build site instead of it just being the builder. Having to build windmills any distance from the tinkers/mechanics is painful at times with the current system.

This is something that's also always bothered me. It should be the job of haulers to move the extra building materials to the active build locations, not just the single builder.

I support this suggestion.

In fact, it might be better to have builders "kill" one ingredient at a time while building(while storing it's data in a "progress list" for that construction), so while they are using the first ingredient, the second could be transported, to save time.

This should also allow you to pre-build constructions and have them half finished for when you get the other materials.

You could manually set up stockpiles next to the build site to get haulers to bring the items there in advance. While it could be useful if haulers handle the issue of bringing items to the worksite it might cause other issues, at least in the design of the ai to handle this. For instance, when you should haulers take on this and when can the builder handle it themselves. It might just be better to leave it as it is and set up convenient stockpiles as needed.

How about, when the work order requires more then 1 item (that is not dirt) to complete the construction, the gome grabs a wheel barrow and rounds up all the items at once with the wheel barrow and brings it to the work order? Can't it work that way? And the logic for grabbing the wheel barrow would be if the wheel barrow is closer to the worker then the closest closest resource needed for the work order. Then you stockpile wheel barrows close to the work site and it should all work, and it will work sometimes if you don't stock them close by because of happen-stance. But once there is a wheel barrow at and around the work site a gnome will be obligate to use it due to proximity.
