Winter Year 3:

Winter this year will be remembered as the season of the golem! Due to our mining operations out pacing our ability to haul all the stone to a stockpile, we had golems popping up quite often. They were more of a nuisance than a real threat, but efforts are underway to clear up the stone before any more of the things appear. Curiously, we also had a few dirt golems as well, with the first appearing in our prospector shop, with a few more appearing throughout the fortress as the season wore on.

Work continued on the second level, with a few more rooms being roughed out. We should have the floors in soon, then we can move some people around and demolish their old rooms for a planned open area in the middle.

The goblins tested our defenses twice this season, with the first scouting party of two being led by fighter in a bronze breastplate and wielding bronze weapons. Rini and Poldaiste finishing them off. The second raid had five but were much more poorly equipped, and our military made short work of them.

Spring Year 4:

Two gnomads, Fab and Fimimi arrived with the spring rains and were welcomed by everyone. They were both given hauling duties as we really need some stuff moved around. Golems continued appearing, but not as many as last season. Progress is progress...

Creating the grand fortress envisioned by our founders has run into a bit of a snag, as apparently one side of the fort was measured in cubits and the other in yards. We spent most of the season reworking some rooms and the great hall. The architect has been flogged.

The goblins are continuing to probe our defenses with more and better armed troops. Both raids this season contained five goblins in total, with the second raid having well armed bronze wearing troops. Both raids were repelled with only minor injuries, but we should probably begin work on our own bronze weapons and armor for our rank and file. Also Hestumpepixil, squad leader of The Primitive Manglers, will be awarded the title Defender of the Fort for being the first gnome to reach ten confirmed goblin kills (in addition to four golems). May she continue being an example of gnomish bravery and spirit!

The attached is how many boxes it's going to take to send that last raid back to their friends.

Summer Year 4:

Sadly, no gnomads made the pilgrimage to Godthrone this season. Work continues on revamping the uneven areas of the fort, and the still temporary great hall is finished, abeit bigger now. Beautification work is sadly going to have to go on the back burner for a bit, in favor of the trap project, which finally got off the ground this season.

Just in time too as the goblins brought an ogre along for the fun this time, and all three fighters were sporting some bronze gear, including a claymore. It was a tough fight and no one died, but Zie got bounced around by the ogre for a bit and Cyr lost her left leg to the afore mentioned bronze claymore. Fortunately our engineers have discovered the secret of prosthetic limbs and a replacement was installed post haste. She is already up and about again and on the mend. Adys, Zie, Razzlestack, Cyr, Mert, and Dinbart all recorded kills with Mert finishing off the ogre.

Fall Year 4:

As the trees put on their red and gold finery, three new gnomads made the trek to Godthrone with tales of it's rapidly growing grandeur. Cazzledack, Gaf, and Danfremble are now bunking together in straw beds in a dorm made of dirt until we can build out proper rooms. Draining and excavating the middle part of the fort has taken priority, and work has been going steadily throughout the season. The pump system is finally in place and we will begin pumping out the last of the water into a holding tank next season.

The goblins launched two assaults on our kingdom. The first was a rather heavily armed squad, but our own military managed to fight them off without any major injuries. The second contained an ogre but was also defeated. Upgrades to our military are ongoing but we seem to be keeping pace with our adversaries. For now.

Winter Year 4:

Winter was spent figuring out how to put the water we had pumped into the holding tank back into the new reflecting pool we built in the center of the fort. Shafts were dug, mechanisms built and water finally flowed to where we need it to go. Mostly. Now we will need to get the rest of the water in the deep holding tank into the pool. That's going to be a bit more tricky, but plans are being thought of right now!

The goblins only braved the snows of winter to harass us once this season. Four goblins and two ogres appeared and were laid low with no injuries to our forces. Razzlestack, Adys, Eve, Hestumpepixil (who is not resting on her laurels after being commended this year), and Poldaiste recorded kills with the last two gnomes named felling the ogres.

Spring Year 5:

Has it really been five years since we started this kingdom? Anyway, only one brave soul made the trip to Godthrone this year. We welcomed Mekka with open arms! Work on completing the reflecting pool took most of the season, but we finally got the rest of the water pumped into it. Sadly, it appears that most of it evaporated, but since it's out in the open rain will eventually top it off. The area around it should be finished by the end of next season.

The goblins attacked two times this season, with the first iron clad soldier we've seen coming with the first raid. Both raids were repelled without casualties, but it appears progress needs to be made on equipping our military.

Summer Year 5:

The area around the reflecting pool is finally ready for furniture to be installed. It will probably be added to slowly from here on out, as mining for iron and equipping the military is our top priority. Our fourth military squad, The Knifebooters, have all been equipped with leather armor and pine shields, to soon be upgraded to bronze plate and tower shields, and will become our tanking squad. They are now mostly excused from regular fort work and are training two shifts a day to prepare.

And not a moment too soon, as we finally saw our first mants. Two showed up due to our increasing food stocks but were quickly crushed. The goblins also attempted a bit of a half hearted raid: no ogres or soldiers and not much in the way of gear. Only two gnomes got kills in this fight; Fimimi with three and Fab with two. We'll see how long our good fortune lasts...

Fall Year 5:

Fall saw us delving into the earth to find the metals we need to upgrade our military. We've made it to -10 where we will spread out to search for tin for a while, before heading deeper for iron. A small dorm and stockpile were set up here so our miners won't have to trek all the way back up to the fort for food and drink. Three of The Knifebooters are now resplendent in full bronze plate complete with tower shields, so the end is in sight for that project. The next step will be upgrading armor quality until we get to steel. We've decided to skip iron if possible. Also, there's been some talk around the fort about the form of squad five, The Violet Beheaders, should take. Should they don leather armor and two weapons as the first few squads, or should we go with a squad of gnomes with battleaxes and warhammers. Or, should one of the more senior squads get two handers and pass their one handed weapons down? It's something to think on.

The goblins made two more attempts to breach our walls this season. Both contained an iron clad soldier and the first one had an ogre as well. Both attacks were repelled with relative ease and, more importantly, no casualties.

Winter Year 5:

Winter saw The Knifebooters finally get their last member, Mert, equipped with full bronze plate and a tower shield. Mining continued in the depths, with good veins of tin, silver, and copper being unearthed. Progress was slow, but to go any faster would invite more golems to spawn than the two we had. Next season will probably see us going deeper as what we really need is iron now. The second floor sleeping area was completely finished out and it's looking marvelous.

The goblins only tried one half hearted probe of our defenses and were repelled. Same for the two mants that showed up late in the season. Here's hoping that our luck will hold...

Spring Year 6:

Spring saw our first gnomad in a couple of seasons as we welcomed Zashtybun to the fort. Her arrival pushed our population to 30 gnomes! She was assigned quarters and to our only remaining training squad, since it has been decided to use the Violet Beheaders as a squad based around the use of two handed weapons. Those weapons have been produced and armor is on the way. It's leather for now, since we're not using the highlander perk, and will be upgraded to bronze as soon as it's crafted.

The goblins made two rather determined attempts at our fort this season. The first was while we were expanding one side of the fort and the walls were down. It had two ogres and an iron clad fighter, which we had to fight in our pine grove. The second raid attacked while we were placing skulls on poles near the new entrance to the fort and saw Ozzle hiding behind her tower shield while help was mustered. She held off an ogre, another iron clad fighter, and almost a handful of unarmed goblins until help arrived, even killing one. She wasn't seriously hurt but she needed a new breastplate.

Summer Year 6:

Three gnomads made the journey to Godthrone this year! Gabindlebrunut, Bolt, and Spackingemkey were welcomed to the fort and put into a new training squad, The Entrenched Venoms. Meanwhile, work continued on terraforming and digging down to level fifteen. We were distracted somewhat by a vein of copper ore, as it's been a while since we've found such a big one. It will get used eventually.

After last season's defeats, the goblins only launched one half hearted raid this summer, which was summarily trounced.

Fall Year 6:

Fall was a slow season for Godthrone. Work continued on the terraforming and mining operations and crafting began on bronze armor for the Violet Beheaders. The mine is at level 41 now so we've got about nine or so more levels to go before we can start getting to the iron we will soon need. We have also begun work on a few bronze blade traps to go with the spike traps in the entrance tunnel.

Sadly, fall also saw our second casualty as Zashtybun, who had only been with us since spring, was killed in the second goblin raid as she tried to reset a trap. Both raids this year were not noteworthy, mostly just more of the same, although the second had a fighter with a helm, breastplate, and battleaxe all made of iron.

Winter Year 6:

Winter was another fairly slow season for us. We finally managed to mine down to level 50 and even found a small iron vein. We are planning another rest stop area, probably on level 50, like we have much farther up. Terraforming was halted this season but should continue and be completed next season. Winter also saw the completion of our very first steel weapons! These were issued to the commanders of our first two military units, the Despaired Dogs and The Primitive Manglers. Congrats to Dacklebasilly and Hestumpepixil. They would need them by the end of the season...

The first goblin raid was, again, nothing to write home about, but the second was a tough battle. It contained two ogres, a soldier, and a fighter with an iron claymore. No one was killed, but Eve lost her right arm. A replacement will be built, but she is upset as you can imagine.

Spring Year 7:

Terraforming on what will eventually be the new grove area done except for a corner. It's a really tall corner, though. It shouldn't take us as long as the hill we just removed, so it will probably be done by the end of the year. Eve's right arm was finished and she's getting the hang of swinging an axe with it again. Spring was another fairly slow season, although our enemies gave us some entertainment this time.

So a goblin raid shows up on day eight, as expected and nothing we can't handle, and proceeds to hammering on the stone door. About this time, a mant worker also shows up and attacks the goblins. The goblins retaliate and a battle ensues with the goblins eventually winning. The mant did kill a raider and wounded another one severely enough that he eventually bled to death, and the rest left since their raiders were gone. Perhaps we should build an underground arena...

Summer Year 7:

With the terraforming (almost) finally over, we have laid an outline for the future grove area. We will need some minor terraforming on a second hill, but that should be done soon. Pathways have been marked out in raw stone but will be replaced with something better at a later date. Mining also continued, although we didn't get as much done as we had hoped. The arena idea is also being discussed, but no actual work on it has been done.

The goblins sent two more raids at us this season. The first had an ogre and a soldier, and the second had two ogres, but it's nothing we can't handle. The upgraded traps in the entrance tunnel are really helping.
