New tools, armors & weapons
« on: March 29, 2015, 12:23:46 PM »
This is a compiled list of various tools, armors and weapons, which aren't in the game. Post a reply if you want your item here. RoboBob can use this list to inspire himself and add some things into the game.
(Here is a list for the resources - http://forums.gnomoria.com/index.php?topic=7828.0 and also this list includes information from this thread http://forums.gnomoria.com/index.php?topic=7782.0 )

Tools:
Fishing rods
Nets (also useful in combat)
Scythes (faster wheat harvesting, also useful in combat)
Hoes (faster tilling)
Pitchfork (Makes collecting hay easier - first it calculates the probable center of a hay covered farm, then creates stacks of 16 hay piles in it. Piles can be then carried away)
Spades (faster dirt and clay mining)
Whips (for animal taming. Wanna tame a bear? ;) Also useful in combat)
Utility hammer (For various workshops. Also speeds up building)
Diving bell (the gnome can use it to work underwater)
Plow (paired with a yak it tiles the farms)
Cart (can be paired with a yak. The yak has to be lead. Merchants should have those. Alot of things should be able to be carried, but slow)
Mine cart (mechanism, can store items)
Elevator (up and down, has to be powered by alot of power, or somebody has to pull the rope)

Weapons:
Bone weapons (a club, a dagger, a sword, a handaxe. Butchering skeletons for Tough Bones)
a Polearm type
a Throwing type
a Daggers type
a Bows type

Daggers
Clubs
Pikes (can attack over one square)
Spears (pure piercing, can be used one handed with a shield)
Javelins
Halberds (two handed)
Battle scythes
Throwable rocks
Slings (useful against unarmored foes, headshot is a critical, can insta-kill ogres)
Shortbows (good against leather, good against chain armors, can penetrate copper armor)
Longbows (as I said in another thread, contrary to popular belief, a longbow shot arrow can penetrate steel armor at 20 meters)
Bastard swords (one and a half swords. Can be used both one-handed and two-handed)
Scimitars
Menschenflšngers (pole-catchers)
Maces
Flails
Battle chains
Explosive bombs
Sticks
Staves
Whips
Throwing knives
Short swords
Rapiers

Armors:
Chain armors (a "medium" armor. Something between a plate armor and leather)
Chitin armors
Bone bracers
Leather Cloaks
Some magic armors. (Like Gem armors. Or the simplest magic made armor - leaf armor, wood armor, medium being stone armor, best being gem armors.)
Scale armors (fish scales, metal scales, maybe dragon scales later)

Items
Lanterns (basically engine-wise metal torches)
Sheath (Storing weapons. So they won't simply drop their weapons on the ground when doing a job)

Also I'm all up for special crafts for races. Elven swords, bows etc. being different, looking different, etc. Also special building blocks, like elven wood block, from which you could build. Elven wood would be strong as bronze or steel (perhaps two variations of the wood).

I'm sorry for creating three threads, but it had to be done for the information to be easily readable. And now I'm off to play. Because I've just realized I can make a sword out of bricks.

Wow, you're on fire. :D

But I think more tools only really make sense for when tools generally do more than just allow a gnome to do something, and depending on the tools material and quality, it gives you a benefit.

I like the idea of pikes, but the rest of the weapons will probably mostly be cosmetic. Which is good, don't get me wrong, but that's probably going to take a while.

I also like the idea of throwing knifes. They will probably be rather expensive if they work like ammo, but at least the stone variant could be a decent early ranged weapon.

The gem armor idea is neat. It would allow us to use gems for something other than simply selling them. Generally using them to upgrade stuff and make it more expensive better would be cool.

Well, I would like to see them also making jobs faster. Scythes making harvesting wheat faster, hoes making tilling faster ... a craftsmen's hammer doing the same for metal jobs.

Pikes would be my number one priority - When playing, I thought they were already in! (and they weren't. I was pissed.)

Throwing knives, arrows and bolts should be butcherable from the corpses, unless they break. If they don't hit, they should hit the floor and stay there. Sometimes, they could bounce of plate armor. Metal knives would break rarely, if they were made out of a quality metal like steel. Arrow and bolt breaks would be more common.

AND I WANT JEWELED SWORDS, GODDAMIT!

A pike was historically much much longer then a spear, I think the 2 space range would be Spear range and Pikes would be like 4 spaces or something, Pikes were so long they were ONLY effective in massed groupings, where as a spear is just barely usable man-2-man.

... or we could use the pikes to pike the enemies from the ramparts.
I do have a 3 or 4 floors big hall with ranged units nested above, so they can easily shoot down on enemies (without being even able to go down there), poking enemies from there with pikes would be fun.

I would like to see Torsion bows, if you have ever played "Gears of War" it's like the torque bow, which should be named the torsion bow, that's the kind of spring power it uses...
Anyways, torsion bows are awesome, they are like a crossbow, but they have stiff bow arms with a joint that houses a torsion spring (different metal springs=different draw strengths) advantages would be a sniper like range, moderate accuracy, high damage. If you want to know how it would look, picture a crossbow assault rifle thingy, that when loaded, the arms are almost flush with the body of the gun. Super OP, researched after automatons, uses crossbow skill

I'm actually working on getting a hobby forge set up so I can (try to) make one out of aluminum brass.

Holy cow! I always wanted to have a hobby forge! Too bad I never will ... I want a house first, even the smallest houses cost about 2 millions here, the true average (ie. median, not arithmetic ... because in TV they tell us how great we fare with having an average of twice the minimal wage, but it doesn't work that way because the 1% rich people own more money than the other 99% combined ...) wage is about 9 000 CZk, and you essentially need around 8-10 000 to live (food, water etc.), so ... I'll probably never get my own house, with a small basement I always wanted for the forge. I hate living in Czech Republic. :(

Anyway, Gnomoria -
Torsion Crossbows, noted in my databases (as I replied to you once, my personal databases are kinda ... too big)

scythes, hoes and other tools that speed up the creation are pretty redundant. Train gnomes enough and they can move faster even wearing heavy armor.
Bows type weapons already exist in the game - crossBOW.
Elevator is not useful either. Unless it's instant it won't be of much use, since gnomes can move really fast already, even faster with Scout perk.
This sentence is false.
I'm a liar.
This statement cannot be proven.

But the Torsion bow would be more powerful, it would be more like a sniper crossbow, maybe if they decreased accuracy with less range?

Crossbows and bows are two very, VERY different things ...
