That's awesome. Did everyone drown? Are your mines now underwater? Inquiring minds want to know.

Intriguing. Could you add a savegame for Robob0b (and us) to analyze?

How did that happen?
The only thing other than a bug with rain that comes to my mind is using a lot of mechanical walls to elevate the water out of a lake. But I'm not sure you'd find such a big one and do all the mechanics in 2 years of game.

I found this bug once, but could not replicate it. It aparently happens when you have a pressurized water pool (150% water really should not happen, water is pretty incompressible under normal conditions) gets taken out water by a well.

The excess water somehow expands up the well, drowning the former thirsty gnome with a high probability.

Second time i see this, and the last time was pretty contained. Another reason not to use wells  :(
Have a problem or a fortress so awesome it needs to be shared?

Well, go on, dont be shy! Use the GnomeworldPool Dropbox account!

Well...

Not really. No casualties, surprisingly.

<insert save here>
(Also, er, don't mind the names of a few of the dead people >_> I couldn't help myself, he had a proper top hat and monocle and everything! D:)

It was weird how it first happened actually. I was down at Layer 57 watching my Gnomes mine their very first iron vein, then decided to head up the surface to check on my farm and HOLY NOTCH THE WORLD'S ON WATER. I just ended up bursting into a fit of laughter as my FPS dropped from it's usual 70 to 2.

But yeah, I'm definitely sure the expanding water lake is a bug, seeing as the water seems to be multiplying.

The game entity water has the attribute "(bool) infinite", maybe one of the raindrops had this one set to true...
This infinite water blocks fill the neighboring tiles with water.

I drowned some gnomes when testing the savegame editor (removing and adding water).
