Gnomoria Save Game Editor
« on: July 30, 2012, 03:16:01 PM »
Introducing GSGE, a save game editor with almost no features very few features!

Inspired by the intelligent and level-headed conversation in this thread, this save game editor currently does exactly one thing FOUR things:
  • Change the game mode of existing save games to Peaceful or Normal.
  • Reveal all unmined ores and gems.
  • Expand all unmined veins of ores and gems.
  • Change trees from one type to another.
To use, download and extract the attached zip into the same folder where Gnomoria.exe is located.  Run GSGE from that folder.  You may have to download the .Net 4.0 Framework for GSGE to work.

I do not offer any support for this program beyond this initial post.  If you lose a save game because of this program, I will not cry for you.  I will likely update this program as new updates are released for Gnomoria, however these will happen on my own schedule.

I plan on adding three more features:
  • Changing animals from one type to another
  • A feature to level off a world at a height lower than 0.  I've seen multiple people wish they could build higher; this will let you set your own ground floor without trying to mine out the whole world.
  • A feature to 'cave-in' the world below a certain depth.  Everything below that depth will be regenerated as if from a new world.  A percentage of the man-made objects from the 'old' world will be put into the 'new' world so you can mine and find 'ruins' of your old cave structures.
These features will be done as I feel like doing them.

That ground level readjusting feature you're planning is interesting. Good job.

Having a rather large amount of free time, I've tinkered with GSGE a bit.

You may want to verify the new functionality of your current release. At least on my current machine it goes directly to the windows error recovery window.

Edit: It sounds like a very helpful tool.  Thank you for putting in the effort to write it.

When run from the Gnomoria directory directly it loads to a black screen, there if I crtl-alt-del out I can see a second "Editor" window, however unless i crash the other window I can't access this one, when I do crash it, i can then load a world/change to peaceful/save, but it doesn't reveal ore/gems.

It would help if I read everything fully and completely.  I am able to run the program, and the only option I have is peaceful vs not peaceful. Very exciting, now I can build for the first year, and then turn on mobs.

I was afraid of that.  I'll update the initial post with a download link rather than using a post attachment.

You can download it from here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28990677/Gnomoria/GSGE.zip

Works now, and awesome.  I have a 60 layer tiny map running low on ore so this helps =D

On WinXP Pro 32bit, it loads the map fine, says all ore revealed and it appears to save fine, but when I load that world in the game, no ore is actually revealed.  I noticed that the timestamp of my world file did not change after saving in your utility.

I tried it on Win7 64-bit, and it worked fine, revealed ore fine.

Thank you; this is useful.  I compile on a 64-bit machine; it didn't occur to me that there are people running on 32-bit.  I don't have access to a 32-bit machine to test; would you be willing to test a build I make specifically for 32-bit?

do you plan on adding features like in dwarf therapist to change jobs in a better tabular view?
