General / Re: GnomoriaWiki.com (Mants ate it!)

Ok it is all back up and running, the host I had it on had a corruption issue on their SAN. I had backups going through them as well and it took far too long to get the backups from them and onto the new server.

Good news is that this sever is much more powerful and can handle the load of it hitting steam without issue.

GnomoriaWiki is down, I am currently moving the host it is on since the old one is having issues. Should be up in a few hours on a new bigger, prettier, faster machine.

Will keep you all updated.

[update] Ok we are back up and running, please let me know about any issues[/update]

Hey all,

The wiki is having issue due to a provider issue.  It came back up this morning and I was so busy with work I didn't check on it. The disk mounted read only and the monitor I had setup was only looking for a response from the server, not making sure it was correct, oops.

Should be back up after a disk check.

Removed all of the posts about pirating since it requires the installer and includes no game files. Thanks to evdude100 for getting this created and distributing it!

Suggestions / Re: Pathfinding
« on: December 11, 2012, 04:32:37 PM »
It took me a while to get what you are trying to get at. You are saying to use floodfill pathfinding. Floodfill works will if you are path finding 1 or 2 things, however if you had 45gnomes and lets say 10 enemies / animals you are floodfinding 55 entities all at once. This is WAY more CPU intensive than what is currently used.

Ok so I talked with RoboB0b and this is being looked into. This thread has no more value so it is being locked.

Hey all,
I am actually on my Honeymoon (long over due been married over a year) and am currently in Spain. The Mrs bvierra decided to take a nap so I snuck some time on here. I see the original poster removed the URL (thanks for that!). So I will not be removing the thread.

I know RoboR0b intentionally did not add DRM so that everyone can play as they see fit and not worry about needed always on internet or something else that would just as easily be cracked by those who want to do it :). As part of this decision he knew that Gnomoria would be pirated and others have said it was hoped that with the game being as inexpensive as it was that this would actually lead to people buying the game after playing it. I will drop an e-mail to him about it and see how he would like to handle it, but I have a feeling much will not change.

Yea, I am sure it was from either a basic start template or it was something that was thought about at one point in time or another.

Introvert(67%)  Sensing(12%)  Thinking(88%)  Judging(67%)
You have distinctive preference of Introversion over Extraversion (67%)
You have slight preference of Sensing over Intuition (12%)
You have strong preference of Thinking over Feeling (88%)
You have distinctive preference of Judging over Perceiving (67%)

I found myself wanting to explain my answers or wanting a middle ground on a good portion of the questions. It was well yes I feel this way about this question BUT....

Off Topic / Re: Get this game on steam

I actually really like steam personally and can't wait till Gnomoria is on there. At the same time, I also understand that R0b wants Gnomoria to be in a more finished state before releasing it onto steam. You think the 1day wait time for Desura is bad? Just wait for steam's wait time on releases, I have heard it can be a few weeks.

I have a feeling that either R0b will wait until Gnomoria is on something closer to a monthly release cycle or will have to do split release cycles(which I don't think is a good idea) where he updates everything but steam weekly and then updates steam only once a month or less.

Off Topic / Re: Programmers?
« on: November 24, 2012, 08:42:52 PM »
Programming came naturally to me. I remember back in grade school getting a book from the library on programming in basic. I didn't leave my room for the entire weekend, went through the entire book and made myself my own menu driven system with password protection. This was way back on my 80386 with a whopping 40MB HDD and something like 4MB or RAM (pretty close to top of the line back then). It even formatted the HDD if you typed the wrong password 3x. The last part was awesome for about a week, then I typed my password wrong 3x... Oh well lesson learned!

I didn't really get started in professional programming till after I got out of the Army in '02 though. I did a bunch of *nix system administration on RH 7.3 (oh the good ol days) and ended up getting hired at a software development company as tech support. I was pretty much told: "you know enough to do the basic stuff now it's time to learn to do more". They gave me code, said to read it and then to replicate it without copying. After a while it became we need this functionality added onto this module get it to me in a week.  Next thing I knew I was programming as much as I could at work or at home.

I actually created my very 1st windows program for Gnomoria, as everything prior to that was done for servers and written for linux. Never created a GUI before, never used C#, but the more I worked with it, the more I didn't hate it. This is probably a bad thing for my linux programming skills since all my free time has been going to C#, but hey what can you do.

afaik its straight kingdom worth. They could care less about happiness in immigrating.

If you kingdom worth = 40 gnomes, you have 30, you will get 10. I also believe that the value is calculated at the start of day 1 (00:00) of the season and not when they actually arrive. So if your cap is 40, you have 40, at 01:00 you lose 20, you still get 0.
