That really is a grand entrance. Nice work!

If the discussion can not continue without insults and flaming, I'll lock the thread. Discussion is great, arguing is not.

Honestly I think the hardest part of starting on easy or medium for my first attempts was that it tricked me into trying to farm too early... In hard you don't start with seeds so that temptation is gone.

I had the same problem with the first two towns I started. I also built houses for everyone right away first, thinking I would need them first. In my current longest town (18 years, not as long as many people), I started by building a bunch of other food types and after a couple years I was doing well for food. I seem to be in a rut where I always need more people, because keeping up with stone and metal is rough. I have nearly 50 citizens now and I had 3 12x12 farms, but metal has been so hard to maintain that I do not run one of the fields anymore.

I can see how some people could get bored with it after awhile, because external forces acting on your town are not as common as many other games of this variety. It's a competition against resource gathering and survival, not so much about preparing for tornadoes or fires. In the past few years in game I've been slowed down, but I think if I just prop up a few more houses I should be able to push a little bit further.

Off Topic / Re: Whelp Towns is dead...

Where are you seeing the info that it is "dead?" I looked on the news section of their site and didn't see anything, but I did see someone post about it on the forums. I'd like to read what the developer had to say, if you had a link from where you read the info.

I think it's time the Steam discussion be taken to the off topic forum, if there is anyone still interested in the discussion. Any posts after this one that are off topic will be removed or moved to a new topic.

Longest surviving kingdom wins... It's very easy to cheese these, rg98, and even use cheating tools, and nobody would ever know. While those would be fun between friends, it's a little hard to make an official challenge out of something so easy to cheat as that.

If someone decides to use cheating tools to help them along in the challenge, then they are really just defeating the point of it to begin with. There are no prizes being given away. If they want to cheat, it's not like they have a chance at winning something. I can see how it could be frustrating but I think we have enough legitimate players that we'll have at least a few good stories and pictures.

I don't think a survive-the-longest was the intended challenge approach, and if it was, then I'm at least saying that I don't much like the idea of it.

So far it seems like a good mix of surviving under interesting circumstances, and a mix of interesting build challenges, but I and the other moderators will make sure that the challenge will be fair and hopefully not just monotonous of the ones that are highest rated in the reddit post.

Hm, it's hard to come up with a good challenge that's actually challenging and can't be cheesed easily...

I expect it could happen with most challenges anyways, but either way the players who go about it legitimately will hopefully have some fun stories to tell.

General / Weekly Wednesday Challenge!
« on: February 12, 2014, 08:13:14 AM »
Earlier today I posted the first weekly Wednesday challenge on the Gnomoria subreddit. I know not everyone here uses reddit, but I'm sure there are some who will be interested. Here is the link: LINK

And for those who do not feel like heading over, I'll copy the information over for you:

The weekly Wednesday challenge is a new way to try a difficult task in Gnomoria beyond the scope of normal gameplay.
In this post you can add your challenge ideas and vote for your favorites.
Next Wednesday, I and the rest of the moderators will have reviewed the favorites and select one of the top challenges for everyone to work on. You will have one week to complete the challenge to the best of your ability.
The Wednesday after that a discussion post will be added to post screenshots or stories from your adventure. How often we will do new challenge posts is still to be determined, we may select multiple challenges from one post or do a new challenge thread every week. The frequency of challenges is subject to change too, depending on how many people are able to effectively work on a challenge.
So go ahead and post your challenge ideas, and next week I hope we can have a new and interesting way to try Gnomoria!

If you are interested, the process is still in the works. I haven't figured out whether the same challenge will be for reddit and the forums, so let me know what you think. I may just test it out on the subreddit for now, but I may post the challenges and discussion threads here for anyone who wants to do the challenge, but not post on reddit.

More copies at 2 dollars at http://blinkbundle.com/
Aswell as other games.

Thanks for posting Uglyduckly. If anyone does end up getting the bundle from blinkbundle, would you mind posting the steps that you take to access the key/download page for Gnomoria?  The reason I ask is so that I can update the troubleshooting sticky post on how to download the game located here. That way in the future anyone else who comes after purchasing the game through blinkbundle can already see the steps you take to access your game if something is wrong. Much appreciated.

Here is the link to the Humble Store.

edit: Check out uglyduckly's post for the link to the blinkbundle.

I'd like to say I did better.. though I most certainly did not!

I must have restarted 8 times at least before I made it to my first summer.

Make sure to use the [READ ME FIRST] thread to go about properly posting a bug on the forums. Without more information or a saved game, it's hard to know whether these are gameplay issues or actual bugs. I'll keep this post up here but I'll change the topic name to more properly reflect issues you are having. If anyone else has similar issues, I will leave this thread here for some more verifiable information. Thanks!

Here is some information on properly submitting an issue on the forums: LINK

Help and Guides / Re: Limit on Gnomes?
« on: January 08, 2014, 08:42:05 AM »
No there is not, but getting more gnomes becomes exponentially harder as the amount of worth you need to attract new gnomes increases. What gets linked most often to figuring out how many gnomes you want is this google document spreadsheet: LINK

I haven't tested all the values myself, but many people seem to like it.

Here is the link to the archived video, for anyone looking for it. If you want to skip to the actual intro, the host starts talking at about 5 minutes, 30 seconds in, and they actually start discussing the game at about 8 minutes in.
