Spring Year 9:

Another winter has passed into spring and it's been business as usual around the fort. No new arrivals this season, sadly. Work continued on finishing out the level three personal quarters and digging out the area on level four. Progress has been slow as excitement builds over the arena project. The goblin raid was dropped neatly into the nearly finished arena where they eventually starved to death. I strongly believe the unveiling ceremony will be happening by the end of next season!

No, Godthrone isn't dead, it has simply been slumbering in the depths of my hard drive for the last few months. I literally have not played since my last post, so we'll see if I can remember what I was doing four months ago. Or at least not watch everything explode because I forgot something important! One thing I did remember when I started was that the game is getting a little sluggish with 38 gnomes and the metric ton of stuff they have on hand now. I will see about trying to get rid of some of it as I believe it's contributing to the performance issues I'm experiencing, and may also have been a factor for me setting this project aside for a bit. I also want to get a few more updates in before November, since Fallout 4!

@Vineheart01: Pretty much what tomf80 said. While I do have enemy numbers and strength reduced slightly (as I stated in initial post) I wasn't in any hurry to increase my kingdom worth so some of my starter gnomes could begin military training during the first spring. That way, once summer came, they could easily handle the basic goblins in the rest of the year's raids. I don't build any armor initially as I prefer they get their dodge skills really high before I start them on any weapons. Basically, unarmed Way of the Gnome until about summer of year 2. Armor is nice, but not getting hit at all is better!

@Imponaut, Morokael, and KitKate: Thank you for the kind words!

Winter Year 8:

As fall gave way to the harshness of winter, three gnomads arrived at Godthrone. Spini, Bina, and Nesprosparl were welcomed and given jobs in the fort. A new training squad was also needed and so the Heroic Sunderers was founded to enhance our defenses against the relentless goblin hordes. Several traders were welcomed and we were able to aquire a good amount of iron for our steel projects, and even a little gold for other things. Because of this, we did not need to mine this winter and continued work on the arena instead (which is turning out wonderfully, and no, I'm not showing it until it's done. mwahaha!). Work also began on level four of the fort to provide housing for the new arrivals.

Just when we think the trap system is finally working properly, a new issue crops up. More tinkering was done, but I think the bugs are finally worked out. We'll see in next month's report.

The goblin raid this winter was fairly tense, although not as bad as it could have been. Nesprosparl was cornered by a couple of the fighters (the varmints having stormed in on the heels of a merchant) but a quick response by the military saved her. Her bad luck continued when three mants arrived later and cornered her again, but she was again saved by the army. She has a few scratches, but is otherwise fine.

Fall Year 8:

Most of this season was spent working on the new training ground area and fine tuning the trap system. The trap was giving us such trouble that we let our straw stocks get too low, but hopefully we caught it in time. We're proactively thinning the yak and alpaca herds just in case. The good news is, the trap should be working perfectly now.

The goblins raided twice this season in more numbers than we've seen in a while, and while both were repelled, Mert lost an arm in the first raid. A prosthetic was immediately constructed and Mert is once again bashing stuff with his tower shield.

Summer Year 8:

Work was finished on the upper part of the trap but has yet to be tested by an enemy invasion. We'll see if they prefer going up and down some stairs or if they'll just try to bash in the doors. Some modifications may be needed. We moved out blade traps out in front of the stairs and, after seeing just how far up the entrance tunnel everything was now, we spent the rest of our time moving some training areas. We're not sure what to do with the old training area, but for now it still has the hospital. That may need to be moved at some point too.

The goblin raid this season was no big deal: no ogres or soldiers for some reason. Props to the guard alpaca who happened to randomly drop one of the invaders into a shallow pit where he starved to death. Four mants also appeared, and while we got a scare from Zie running out to build a windmill, alone, she ran back after being stung. They were then swiftly dealt with by the rest of the military.

Spring Year 8:

Mining continued down to level 53 where we found two more modestly sized iron veins. Also, a small bit of progress was made on the level 3 living quarters, and some issues with food and drink production were finally sorted out (hopefully). The biggest news, however, was beginning work on our hatch trap system which will eventually drop enemies down into an arena! The alpaca 'safety valve' for visiting merchants is already done, and we're just waiting on parts for the upper level of it.

Just in time too, as the goblins brought a two-headed ogre for the first time this season. It was felled by Poldaiste after a long battle, with no casualties on our side. Oddly, there were no mants this season, although we should probably expect to see more of them soon.

Thanks! Sorry to hear about your kingdom, though. As I said, you and Serif inspired me to start this. I hope you do another once your work situation clears up.

Winter Year 7:

While we only mined down one more level this winter, we did find a nice vein of iron which we greedily mined out. We're going to need a lot more of it if our soldiers are going to be sporting steel armor any time soon. A few steel one handers have started appearing in the hands of the Despaired Dogs and the Primitive Manglers, but as they're worth as much as bronze two handers individually, we may need to stop making them in favor of armor. A gold statue was finally produced for the reflecting pool, and work was begun on the level three living quarters.

Three gnomads made the trip to Godthrone this season. That or they were chased here by the three mants that showed up shortly after they did. Napper, Wosegripo, and Humperticketo were welcomed warmly. The mants were not. The goblins also attacked twice this season, and while the steel clad soldier in the second raid with two swords was scary, both attacks were repelled.

Yet your goblin kingdom has what is probably one of the best random names for a goblin kingdom I've ever heard of.

Cool, thank you for posting. It seems like everyone is better at building traps than I am. In my current game (which I'm sharing over in the Kingdoms forum if anyone's interested) I'm thinking that I may need some kind of trickle feeder like the one you have eventually. Or just go with the death arena I'm thinking about now. :)

Fall Year 7:

Terraforming was finally finished on the rest of the terrain that was in the way, and the last bit of grove was laid out. We are looking at possibly producing some steel one handed weapons for our first military squad, the Despaired Dogs. We are continuing to mine on level 50 but we're thinking it might be better to go deeper. What's the worst that could happen?

We saw our first steel clad soldier this season! It was just him, three raiders and an iron clad fighter, so the battle wasn't too bad. No injuries to report. What's more concerning is our food stock level, as it's high enough for more mants than we've seen so far. None have been spotted yet, but we feel it's only a matter of time before they show up again...

Summer Year 7:

With the terraforming (almost) finally over, we have laid an outline for the future grove area. We will need some minor terraforming on a second hill, but that should be done soon. Pathways have been marked out in raw stone but will be replaced with something better at a later date. Mining also continued, although we didn't get as much done as we had hoped. The arena idea is also being discussed, but no actual work on it has been done.

The goblins sent two more raids at us this season. The first had an ogre and a soldier, and the second had two ogres, but it's nothing we can't handle. The upgraded traps in the entrance tunnel are really helping.

Spring Year 7:

Terraforming on what will eventually be the new grove area done except for a corner. It's a really tall corner, though. It shouldn't take us as long as the hill we just removed, so it will probably be done by the end of the year. Eve's right arm was finished and she's getting the hang of swinging an axe with it again. Spring was another fairly slow season, although our enemies gave us some entertainment this time.

So a goblin raid shows up on day eight, as expected and nothing we can't handle, and proceeds to hammering on the stone door. About this time, a mant worker also shows up and attacks the goblins. The goblins retaliate and a battle ensues with the goblins eventually winning. The mant did kill a raider and wounded another one severely enough that he eventually bled to death, and the rest left since their raiders were gone. Perhaps we should build an underground arena...

Winter Year 6:

Winter was another fairly slow season for us. We finally managed to mine down to level 50 and even found a small iron vein. We are planning another rest stop area, probably on level 50, like we have much farther up. Terraforming was halted this season but should continue and be completed next season. Winter also saw the completion of our very first steel weapons! These were issued to the commanders of our first two military units, the Despaired Dogs and The Primitive Manglers. Congrats to Dacklebasilly and Hestumpepixil. They would need them by the end of the season...

The first goblin raid was, again, nothing to write home about, but the second was a tough battle. It contained two ogres, a soldier, and a fighter with an iron claymore. No one was killed, but Eve lost her right arm. A replacement will be built, but she is upset as you can imagine.

Fall Year 6:

Fall was a slow season for Godthrone. Work continued on the terraforming and mining operations and crafting began on bronze armor for the Violet Beheaders. The mine is at level 41 now so we've got about nine or so more levels to go before we can start getting to the iron we will soon need. We have also begun work on a few bronze blade traps to go with the spike traps in the entrance tunnel.

Sadly, fall also saw our second casualty as Zashtybun, who had only been with us since spring, was killed in the second goblin raid as she tried to reset a trap. Both raids this year were not noteworthy, mostly just more of the same, although the second had a fighter with a helm, breastplate, and battleaxe all made of iron.

Summer Year 6:

Three gnomads made the journey to Godthrone this year! Gabindlebrunut, Bolt, and Spackingemkey were welcomed to the fort and put into a new training squad, The Entrenched Venoms. Meanwhile, work continued on terraforming and digging down to level fifteen. We were distracted somewhat by a vein of copper ore, as it's been a while since we've found such a big one. It will get used eventually.

After last season's defeats, the goblins only launched one half hearted raid this summer, which was summarily trounced.

Spring Year 6:

Spring saw our first gnomad in a couple of seasons as we welcomed Zashtybun to the fort. Her arrival pushed our population to 30 gnomes! She was assigned quarters and to our only remaining training squad, since it has been decided to use the Violet Beheaders as a squad based around the use of two handed weapons. Those weapons have been produced and armor is on the way. It's leather for now, since we're not using the highlander perk, and will be upgraded to bronze as soon as it's crafted.

The goblins made two rather determined attempts at our fort this season. The first was while we were expanding one side of the fort and the walls were down. It had two ogres and an iron clad fighter, which we had to fight in our pine grove. The second raid attacked while we were placing skulls on poles near the new entrance to the fort and saw Ozzle hiding behind her tower shield while help was mustered. She held off an ogre, another iron clad fighter, and almost a handful of unarmed goblins until help arrived, even killing one. She wasn't seriously hurt but she needed a new breastplate.
