Hello everyone!
I was having troubles finding some specific informations about cave monsters. As such, I decided to create the Pokedex Project to gather knowledge about thoses beasts so we can fight/use them easily.

I will update this post with your answers so everyone can enjoy thoses knowledges.

Here are the specific questions I wanted to talk about :
  • Will cave monsters attack gobelins?
  • Do they move in a horde? Do we need to lure them out to attack gobelins?
  • How does lava affect them?Will lava burn the drop, will they flee from lava?
  • How does water affect them? Does squeletons survive water? (water moat)

The idea here is to be able to use monsters. I'm thinking about a bettle farm to train fighters. It would also serve to unleach hell on your opponents in the outside world. Lava would be of use to get rid of them if they are over breeding. Having squelletons in a water trap might be funny and having spiders going on rampage in the outside world be a pleasant show. Even better, infecting soldiers with the zombie virus to revive them... so they can come from the death to mess with the gobelins.

Monsters are creatures found below the surface beginning from level -8, spawning in any dark areas. The types of monsters encountered and their strength increases the deeper the level they are encountered in. They can be prevented from spawning in an area by placing torches, although this will not prevent them from spawning at any exposed map edges. By default all military squads attack monsters on sight except Golems.

Monsters will only spawn near your gnomes (16 tiles or 2 floors away), so you don't have to light up a whole level to prevent spawns - only within 16 squares of where your gnomes usually are.
