General / Cat stepping down as moderator
« on: February 18, 2015, 11:05:53 AM »
Greetings all,

I've had a wonderful time assisting RoboB0b, bvierra, and Merry76 with moderating the forums. As time has passed I've had less time for gaming overall, and with that less time to be here assisting on the forums. I have a few projects that I'm involved in that use up much of my free time, and have a few real life changes that are coming up here soon that ultimately mean I wouldn't have time to do my part here as a moderator.

You're in the very capable hands of bvierra and Merry76, though, so there won't be any real changes after I hand back the moderator keys. I'll still be around to keep up with updates and hear what sorts of interesting developments come along for Gnomoria, though!

It's been a wonderful experience to see a game and community grow from something so small to several thousand players. I look forward to many more long hours of sniping beetles from a cozy perch and creating a mecha-gnome monk army. Happy gaming, and I hope you have some fun now that the next patch has just dropped!

Respectfully yours,

Cat

General / Using the report to moderator utility

Every topic and reply submitted to the Gnomoria forums has a link in the bottom right corner that says "Report to moderator." Once you click that button, You are displayed with a brief explanation on the feature and given a comment box where you can describe what you believe to be the issue with the post.

This is single-handedly the best way to highlight an issue on the forums. If you are not sure if a post is breaking a rule or guideline, feel free to submit a report anyway. I personally would prefer reviewing one rule breaking post instead of removing many posts that take a thread off topic.

In short, let the moderator team handle issues, and do not take it in your own hands to fix the issue as this could escalate the situation. Let us do the dirty work!

I appreciate you taking the time to check out this post. The moderation team does not have the time to read every single topic and reply, so it falls on the community as a whole to properly maintain the forums. Thanks!

If you would like a refresher on the rules for our forum, they are stickyed in every single sub-forum. Here's a link though!

General / Using the Report to Moderator feature
« on: May 05, 2014, 09:36:18 AM »
Greetings Gnoministrators,

I would like to take this time to inform those who may not know about the report to moderator function on how it works. If you see a post that you feel does not follow the forum rules and guidelines, in the bottom right hand corner of that post (and every post, it is available on each one specifically), you can select "Report to Moderator." Once you click that button, You are displayed with a brief explanation on the feature and given a comment box where you can describe what you believe to be the issue with the post.

This is single-handedly the best way to highlight an issue on the forums. You see, whenever a report is sent using the report to moderator feature, I receive an email that can allow me to respond in a timely manner. I'm not superman, though, and can not be here all day to manage posts but I make sure to take time everyday to help resolve issues.

If you feel a topic should be moved to another forum, such as a bug posted in the help and guides forum or a suggestion posted in the general forum, feel free to use the report to moderator feature here too! Reports do not just have to be about rule breaking, and nothing bad happens after a report is made.

If you are not sure if a post is breaking a rule or guideline, feel free to submit a report anyway. Unless you abuse the report to moderator function, I personally would prefer reviewing one rule breaking post instead of removing 15 posts that take a thread off topic or becoming combative.

In short, let the moderator team handle issues, and do not take it in your own hands to fix the issue; this could escalate the situation. Let us do the dirty work!

I appreciate you taking the time to check out this post, for those who made it this far. The moderator and administrator teams do not have the time to read every single topic and reply, so it falls on the community as a whole to properly maintain the forums. Thanks!

If you would like to have your channel hosted as well, or if you are a viewer and know a great Let's Play or stream you would like posted, go ahead and post here or send me a message. Here is the current list of channels, in alphabetical order based off of username:

General / Weekly Wednesday Challenge!
« on: February 12, 2014, 08:13:14 AM »
Earlier today I posted the first weekly Wednesday challenge on the Gnomoria subreddit. I know not everyone here uses reddit, but I'm sure there are some who will be interested. Here is the link: LINK

And for those who do not feel like heading over, I'll copy the information over for you:

The weekly Wednesday challenge is a new way to try a difficult task in Gnomoria beyond the scope of normal gameplay.
In this post you can add your challenge ideas and vote for your favorites.
Next Wednesday, I and the rest of the moderators will have reviewed the favorites and select one of the top challenges for everyone to work on. You will have one week to complete the challenge to the best of your ability.
The Wednesday after that a discussion post will be added to post screenshots or stories from your adventure. How often we will do new challenge posts is still to be determined, we may select multiple challenges from one post or do a new challenge thread every week. The frequency of challenges is subject to change too, depending on how many people are able to effectively work on a challenge.
So go ahead and post your challenge ideas, and next week I hope we can have a new and interesting way to try Gnomoria!

If you are interested, the process is still in the works. I haven't figured out whether the same challenge will be for reddit and the forums, so let me know what you think. I may just test it out on the subreddit for now, but I may post the challenges and discussion threads here for anyone who wants to do the challenge, but not post on reddit.
